BIOGRAPHY

Myung-Whun Chung, the first ever to be appointed Conductor Emeritus of the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan since 2023 and Principal Guest Conductor of Dresden Staatskapelle, as well as Honorary Music Director of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France in Paris and the KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) Orchestra, was recently appointed Artistic Director of the new Busan Opera and Concert Hall in South Korea.

Myung-Whun Chung's long and exceptional musical activity also includes: Music Director of the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Municipal Theater of Florence, Chief Conductor of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and Music Director of the Opéra de Paris-Bastille. Myung-Whun Chung has conducted the most important orchestras in Europe, the United States and Asia.

He has been awarded numerous awards and prizes: Commandeur de la légion d'honneur by the French Government, Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy and Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the Italian Government and Keumkwan by the Korean Government. He was also given the keys to the city of Venice.

Since 2008, Myung-Whun Chung has been an International Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF.
