Barbara Hannigan, a world star whose voice is among the most original and requested on the contemporary opera scene, makes her debut at the Teatro alla Scala. In the dual role of singer and conductor she plays Elle, a woman at the height of pain, trapped in a world between fantasy and reality, in the original production of La Voix Humaine by Francis Poulenc, against the background of a screen that portrays the artist's gestures thanks to video direction by Denis Guéguin and Clemens Malinowski. “I've always thought that Elle's incursions into unreality, illusion and control make La Voix Humaine a work suitable to be sung and directed simultaneously,” he says. It is the same Elle who sings Poulenc who conducts the melancholic sounds of Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss, a solemn reflection on the transcendence between worldly and divine.
