In 1970, at the University of Gent, a 23-year-old Philippe Herreweghe and his group of friends decided to get together in ensemble so that they could dedicate themselves with all the attention they wanted to the interpretation of baroque music. Fifty-five years later, that ensemble is the Collegium Vocale Gent: its crystalline sound is known all over the world. From the Renaissance repertoire for small chamber groups to modern ensembles for more than eighty voices, the extreme dedication to authenticity and to the study of the score remains unchanged. The program at the Teatro alla Scala is a tribute to Italy, with the majestic and complex work of Claudio Monteverdi.
