For his return to the Teatro alla Scala, Manfred Honeck offers a varied and refined program, starting with a tribute to his Austrian compatriot Johann Strauss with the overture of his most famous work. This is followed by the 'divertimento' of Maurice Ravel, who wanted to name his concerto in G: the sound of the piano is like fresh and transparent water, in a playful dialogue with the orchestra that suggests Mozart's lightness. In the second part, Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony tells us about the new creative freedom of its author, who returned to symphonic composition after a long break of eight years, after the death of Stalin.
