Due to health reasons, Maestro Riccardo Chailly will not be able to conduct Filarmonica della Scala in the concert on Monday, February 24, the second date of the season, and in the European tour scheduled from February 25 to March 4, 2025. He will be replaced by Lorenzo Viotti, whom we thank for his availability. The program remains unchanged.
In recent years Viotti has consolidated his artistic relationship with Filarmonica della Scala: his debut was in 2018 when, just 28 years old, he conducted a refined program that included music by Wagner, Rachmaninov, Debussy, and Scrjabin. His most recent engagement was last January, when he conducted Mahler's Sixth Symphony.

After a long period in the United States, both Antonín Dvořák and Sergei Prokof'ev felt the need to return to their homeland. In Prague, Dvořák wrote the Cello Concerto No. 2: rediscovering his roots, he created one of the greatest masterpieces for this instrument, the music of his people not an object of study but the living matter of the culture around him. While working on Romeo and Juliet Prokof'ev knew he had to return to Russia to find inspiration again. “Prokof'ev's music is creator and soul of dance,” as Galina Ulanova, the Juliet of the first performance in Leningrad, said. After Symphonies No. 1, No. 3 and No. 7, Filarmonica continues its journey through the composer's oeuvre by performing the suite from the Ballet.
