“I'm finally leaving. My great pain remains down here.” In his Violin Concerto, Alban Berg cites melody and text from Bach's Cantata No. 60: it's just one of the traces of the composer's affection for Manon Gropius, an 18-year-old girl who recently passed away, an “angel” to whose memory he dedicated the song. And the entire concert is a journey from darkness to light, a tender portrait of this adolescent girl, of her death and transfiguration. In the program proposed by Daniele Gatti, we are welcomed by the string transcription of Langsamer Satz by Webern. The second part is followed by the extensive melodies of Master Singers from Nuremberg by Richard Wagner, in the arrangement of the Dutch composer Henk de Vlieger.
